In her interview with Joe Heaps Nelson at Whitehot Magazine, Madeline von Foerster explains the origins of her cabinet paintings. Inspired by the Wunderkrammern or cabinets of wonder of the Enlightenment and the tradition of reliquaries, Foerster creates intimate spaces where exotic and precious things are protected. According to von Foerster, her cabinet paintings,"are a way to make art about deforestation and the environment."
